About Me

My photo
Where did the name "Obbie Dobbie" come from you ask? When I was born, my big sister Cathy at 18 months older, couldn't say Robyn so called me Obbie Dobbie instead. As my two younger sisters, Jenny and Christine, came into the family, the nick name continued. I thought it'd be a cute name for my craft blog and my children's clothing label. *************************************************** *************************************************** *************************************************** ***************************************************

Time flies…

Wow it’s been 14 years since I last blogged - unbelievable. I’ve since found Facebook and Instagram and regularly post in those two forums, usually showcasing my creations and sometimes holiday pics.

So much has happened in those years and many a creation has been sewn, from children’s clothing to bags and pouches. All created with care and much love.

This is Freddie - a cuddle pillow sewn using a pattern from Homespun magazine.  I changed my cuddle pillow a little by making the cover removable for easy washing by adding a strip of velcro along the bottom.  The insert is a pillow covered in calico and filled with cotton fibre. I love his cow's lick!

Car travel mats to keep little ones amused whilst out driving or waiting for an appoiintment.  Hide one in your handbag and bring it out when your tot is showing signs of boredom.

Out with the old and in with the new...

My pin cushion (which is much used I might add) has been sitting on my sewing machine/s for 19 years now - maybe it's time for a new one. No doubt, being the hoarder that I am, I won't be able to part with my old one. Oh dear....

You wouldn't think I was a true blue born and breed aussie would you? Just love anything British, Scottish, Welsh..... anything and anywhere in the UK in fact.

My goodness,,,,

I'm in trouble - a couple of my friends have been waiting months since my last blog so had better upload some of my latest creations for sale on Facebook. Its no excuse of course but I have been really busy with lots of sewing for my fb page. Nearly all of my items have been sold, many sell before I even get the chance to showcase them in facebook. Have even sewn a few little things for boys.

Hope you like.
This little one is really cute in lilac and green with lovebirds. The hem is trimmed with a layer of anglaise.
This one is sewn using Woodland by Natalie Lymer of Cinderberry Stitches. So whimsical. The embellishment is made up of gathered lace, yo-yo and covered button to match.

These are a few of the dresses I have been sewing for my grand-daughter and friends. The fabrics are really dainty and sweet..

Op Shop upcycling

Clever use of old doileys....I have always loved hand embroidered doileys and have quite a few in my collection of linen. I recently purchased a few patchwork and craft books from my favourite op shop and found a quick and easy pattern for making a shoulder bag using old doileys. There was absolutely no way I could cut up perfectly fine doileys so searched high and low for several weeks until I found enough with holes and tattered crocheted edges to make up this bag. My sister loved it as much as I did so naturally I had to make two. This bag now takes pride of place in my sewing room. I think it is quite pretty and shabby chic.

My latest Op Shop finds

I just love home made items and when I saw these 2 crochet throws, I just could not walk out the op shop without buying them. The red/white one was only $4 and the other which is quite large was $8. They washed up well and look quite good in my lounge. The throws have been beautifully crocheted. It makes you wonder why they would be given away however I am very glad they are in my home.

Pretty in pink

I am also trying my hand at decorating kufi hats with ribbons, bows and embellishments.(I can't take the credit for the crochet though) This is my first attempt and I am happy with it. Of course, it looks really sweet on Amelia.

Summer frilly set

I just love sewing these cool sets for summer - they look so cute on little girls.

The fabric is really sweet with the love heart lollies. Although the colour in this pic looks blue, the singlet is actually purple and the trimmings on the nappy pants are also purple.
